Genomic selection- The tool of the future for breeding selection

Humlegården has been working with genomic selection since 2012. We collaborate with Novaselek in Germany for the preparation and analysis of the tests. Novaselek has been working with genomic selection since 2005.

The genomic test EvaLim makes it possible to select animals for breeding with a focus on genetics. The test includes parameters such as muscle, shape, growth potential, bone fineness, milk, calving ease and weight at 3 months.

Our biggest success in genomic selection is the bull Ivar, who has a score of 10 out of 10 in births and in calves. The bull has been in three herds and has had over 100 calves, about half of them have been with heifers. None of these calves died One of the births has even been a backward birth.

We are always ready for a professional discussion about this and would like to share experiences.
